Product Review: JLife’s Perfect Wave | “Define & De-frizz Your Curls”

JLife Hair Care

I was contacted to try a product from Jlife Hair Care. I had never heard of Jlife so I quickly hit the Internet to find out as much as I possibly could. The creation of the line is based on renowned celebrity stylist Andrew Jose wanting to simplify the hair industry. He felt hair styles and the products required to maintain them had become way too complicated for real people and even hairstylists. So in turn Jose created products with the base ingredient of Sea Moss that would each serve a purpose and deliver on it’s claims.

Instead of a styling product that just enables hair to be sculpted Jlife makes products that also keep hair looking healthy and shiny. Key ingredients include: Red Sea Weed (to provide moisture and conditioning), red algae (add volume), hydrolyzed wheat protein (increase shine, durability and moisture), sugar cane juice (soften hair & reduce static), vitamin e extracts for strength and pro vitamin b-5 for light conditioning.

I was sent a styling product: Perfect Wave- a defrizzing curl definition styler. It’s recommended use is to apply to hair before round brushing which I did. Was I impressed? No. But I did discover that this product has another use. First let me tell you about my hair. It’s shoulder-length, chemically-relaxed and I do love my flat iron. I decided to use it on my hair dry before I used my flat iron to do a flip. I applied about a dime-sized amount to my hair especially the ends. Perfect Wave is the combination of a gel and a shine serum. Not greasy but light and it has great slip and didn’t leave any residue or film on my hair. The fragrance of the product reminds me of a lovely unisex fragrance; something women wouldn’t mind their hair smelling like and men wouldn’t be embarrased having their hair smell like.

I was amazed at how my flip lasted throughout the day. And this was a rainy and misty day where my hair got drizzled on several times without it frizzing up or even falling and it even maintained a nice sheen. I thought ok now let me try this without using this product and see what my hair will do? And it was quite a stark contrast. Without using Jlife’s Perfect Wave my hair fell and even frizzed a little bit. So if it’s a misty, drizzly or humid day and you want to get your hair to behave and not fall prey to the moisture; ask your stylist about Jlife’s Perfect Wave.

I still have yet to use this product for creating curls so look for another review coming soon letting you know how it performed for a wet set.

(JLife Perfect Wave Styler, retail $18.00)

British Beauty Blogger Reviews JLife For Thin/ Fine Hair Types

british-beauty-blogger

jlife-the-big-one-shampoo_conditioner

A while back I asked for volunteers to test shampoos and conditioners for thinning hair. Charlotte from London tested the J-Life range by Andrew Jose, and in her own words had her ‘best hair day Christmas in years!’. Read her full review below:JLife – the big one – thickening shampoo

============================= This was definitely thickening! Not in a “pouffe-y” way, but in a general overall greater volume effect. It has quite a marked salon smell, and was what I regard as quite a strong shampoo — meaning that it tended to make my hair rebel a bit, bringing out its natural kinks. I generally stick to a gentler shampoo to avoid this, but it won’t put me off using the JLife shampoo when I want a more volume-y effect.

JLife – the big one – thickening conditioner

==============================

=
This is great. Equal to or better than my current essential product, which is the Naked thickening conditioner. I’ll definitely buy more of this. The one complaint is that it is quite runny, and supplied in an unwieldy half-moon container than makes it awkward to dispense without wastage. (The same container is used for the shampoo, but because that’s gloopier, it’s not such a problem.) Given that it’s such a winner, I would want to make this last as long as possible and not lose any.

Overall
=====
Using both the shampoo and conditioner together, with the last of the thickening styling spray that I already had, I had the best-hair-day Christmas in years. Fantastic. And especially vital now that there are little nieces and nephews on the scene and lots of photos that get taken with their Aunty for posterity… And as previously noticed, all three thickening products work better in an area with softer water (where my parents are) than when used with London water.

I do definitely want to re-stock once all these are finished.

JLife S.O.S Leave In Conditioner Reviewed By Mom’s Favorite Stuff

Leave-in Conditioner/Detangler for Easier Hair Management

sos

January 9th, 2009

I have the kind of difficult hair that isn’t quite curly and isn’t quite straight.  As a result, I can’t just jump out of bed and be ready to go.  My hair requires care and feeding, and the new SOS Leave In Conditioner by JLIFE I received is perfect for keeping tangles at bay, and also protecting my hair against damage from my straightener or hairdryer.  It’s not heavy at all, so it doesn’t weigh down my hair like other leave-in conditioners tend to do, and it also doesn’t make my hair look oily.

JLIFE products are inspired by the surf, and all products start out with a natural base and is designed to leave the hair after 12 hours.  So, unlike other products I’ve used, this leave in conditioner doesn’t make my hair look dull and heavy at the end of the day.

Deciphering 3 of My Favorite JLife Products

matt

By Matthew Landis

When it comes to beauty products, we know that Americans love the sound of anything European, but sometimes small but important details get lost in translation.  Ask anyone from Britain if Americans speak English, and most of them will laugh and politely tell you no.  But it’s not just words that get lost in translation; imported products can also confuse the Stateside consumer.  What is it called?  What does it do?  Why would I want that?

Andrew Jose and his team created the products with a European sensibility for high fashion and gave them names that reflect his love for the ocean and the beach.

One of the greatest strengths of JLife is its simple and straightforward usability; however, there are a few product types that I believe may be somewhat unfamiliar to a broad American market.   For instance, hair mousse is something most of us still associate with the 1980’s.  Other products seem obvious, but maybe we are afraid to ask what they are really for.  Is grooming cream a men’s product?  And what exactly do I do with sea salt in my hair?

I am no different. Through my time with Andrew Jose as well as using the products in the salon, the following three products are now among my favorites.

in_controlIn Control Mousse

Stateside, we think of mousse primarily for volume.  This mousse, however, is about control.

The first successful mousse product introduced to the U.S. market was in 1984, and the image of Melanie Griffith in Working Girl is the first thing that often comes to mind.  Back then, mousse was perfect for achieving those gravity-defying looks of the era.  In the early 1990’s, mousse products for the most part fell out of vogue in the U.S. while gels and sprays survived, and pomades were on the rise.

Mousse isn’t just for big hair anymore.  Mousses have several unique properties that make them useful for a variety of looks and hair types.  They are lighter than gel and have more grip than silicone or serum products.  I use In Control Mousse for straightening and smoothing hair that is coarse and frizzy.

Best Use Guideline for In Control Mousse:  Shake can well.  Spray foam into palm.  Use a comb to thoroughly distribute the products through the hair.  Shape or blow-dry as desired.

Surf Girl Sea Salt Spritz

Surf Girl is a light, easy to use spray that is great for adding texture and bulk to fine, limp hair.  It can also add more oomph to wave and curls.

The misperceptions of this product may be more generational than international.   Some might wonder what the advantages would be to putting something in their hair that sounds like a mixture of salt and beach sand.  Personally, I like to think that sand at the beach is something that feels good between my toes and Surf Girl Sea Salt Spritz is more like sunshine and the ocean in my hair.

The “Surf Girl” label is misleading because I think this is a great product for guys looking for a beach, “surf boy” look – a style than transcends geography.

Best Use Guideline for Surf Girl Sea Salt Spritz:  Mist the product through wet or damp hair.  Blow dry, towel dry, or air dry for whatever look suits you.  Can also be used on dry hair or second-day hair to revive and refresh your style.

Sunset Surfer Grooming Cream –

To many, the idea of hair “lotion” sounds disgusting.  We think of lotion as something primarily for dry skin, a slightly greasy, viscous concoction that would leave our hair looking like a swim through an oil spill.

Lighter than pomade and more versatile, Sunset Surfer gives hair texture, separation and easy control without gooping or clumping it up.  It gives wonderful smoothness and shine. It can even tame those little, crazy hairs caused by static electricity or the hairs naturally wild tendencies.  It’s great for everyday use as well as giving you that secret something when doing editorial or special occasion styles.  Once they try it, my friends who use it come back again and again for more.

Best Use Guideline for Sunset Surfer Grooming Cream:  Start with a small amount and add more as necessary using your fingertips for refined work and your whole hand for smoothing large sections.

Whether learning a new skill or how to use new products, keeping an open mind and getting as much information as possible is key to success.  Andrew Jose and everyone at JLife have created a line of products that are easy to understand, easy to use, and produce maximum results – and that is something everyone can love, no matter what language they speak.
